Towards the western part of Lantau Island, you will find a remote fishing village named Tai O. Tai O is a great place to spend the day exploring. When walking through the town, you will discover traditional stilt houses built along the river. Interestingly, it’s a rather peaceful area, compared with the main city.
Hong Kong is famous for its local markets and street food, and thus in Tai O, you will find and smell their traditional salted fish and shrimp paste. To foreigners, it can be an unpleasant smell. But the food attracts the natives. In fact, it tastes good, if you know how to cook it.
Tai O is now a popular tourist zone, especially during the weekends. My advice is to start nice and early during the weekdays. That way, you are less likely to bump into people. Don’t forget to bring a camera!

Wow, amazing to know that HK has a place like this. Would have definitely mistaken it was a little town in Europe !
I know, right? The further I walked, the more peaceful it became. A lovely quiet place to live in.
Nice
